“I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance…You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.“— Revelation 2:2-4

All that good work, and Jesus has something against us? We can do it all, everything a Christian should, but if we have lost our love relationship with the Lord, and as a result, with each other, He holds it against us. His priority is a relationship, not our good deeds!

God reminded Israel, “I remember how eager you were to please Me…how you loved Me and followed Me even through the barren wilderness” (Jeremiah 2:2, NLT).

The Lord has always desired an intimate, love relationship with His people. That hasn’t changed.

The Christian life is about falling in love with Jesus because He first loved us. But in this distracting, busy world, it is easy to lose sight of that love. Jesus gave us the solution in the next verse after today’s Scripture: “Remember from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works” (Revelation 2:5).

Today, take the time to REMEMBER where you were before you committed your life to the Lord. Remember what He has done for you, how He rescued you and provided for you.

Remember the joy of discovering eternal life! Remember the truths that made your heart excited, grateful, and tender toward others.

Ask the Lord to rekindle that first love and set your heart free to love Him again.

Remember the joy of knowing “Jesus loves me.”
