Saturate San Diego

A miracle recently happened in Orlando, Florida.  Over 250 churches joined forces to reach about 770,000 homes with the Gospel.  It was a joyous, well-received project that united believers and brought many new believers into the Kingdom of God.

Our enemy works hard to divide and conquer —especially among churches.

That’s why I was so excited when a member of our church, Curt Hensley, approached me about a visionary project that will involve hundreds of local San Diego churches. Saturate San Diego is a plan to deliver the Gospel to thousands of front doors.  The ultimate goal is to reach the 1.2 million homes in San Diego with a friendly packet that includes the JESUS film, a booklet, other materials, and personal invitations to local churches in every area. The JESUS DVD makes the movie available in eight languages, so everyone can be reached.

It’s already happened in Orlando, and moving through major cities across the nation like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and more.

God is on the move!

Every year the Lord gives me a word for my personal life and ministry. My word this year, which I believe is for the Church from the heart of the Father, is UNITY.

Psalm 133 reminds us, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”—Psalm 133:1

I genuinely believe there is no greater joy than to live and work in harmony with God’s people. What often brings that about is a common cause. What can we agree on together?

The Gospel!

The last time the churches united in San Diego on a wide scale was Billy Graham’s visit in 2003, Mission San Diego.  The mission’s executive committee reported that during Graham’s previous visit to San Diego in 1976 there was an “uncooperative spirit of jealousy and competition among the local evangelical churches.”

But by 2003 things had changed.  The unity among believers "has been remarkable," reported a member of the mission’s committee. "God has something going on here… it's because of the fervent prayer of everyone on the executive committee and the fervent prayer of people all across the nation." 1

The Church woke up and realized, our battle is not against each other.  Our true enemy is not the person sitting next to you in church, or your spouse, your children, co-workers or another church or ministry.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

No wonder Jesus prayed,  “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word, that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me” (John 17:20-21).

Jesus prayed for unity. And, He told us to  “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16;15).

Billy’s 2003 mission was an historic event involving over 700 churches and filling Qualcomm stadium night after night.  I remember reading that the attendance was one of the largest in the history of the stadium.

We can reach even more people than a stadium can hold! Saturate San Diego not only has the potential to bring the Gospel to every home and business and corner of San Diego, it will also unite the Body of Christ as church after church declares, “I’m in.”

Curt Hensley is heading up the organization launching Saturate San Diego.  He has served on the board of the Jesus Film Project ( for seven years and has been part of the team that has seen over 200 million men, women, and children make decisions to know Jesus after viewing the “JESUS” movie.

For Curt, it is also personal.  His wife made a commitment to the Lord after watching the movie.  We have bonded over a deep desire to see all of San Diego reached and saturated with the Gospel! To see God’s love poured out upon our beautiful city and into every community and ethnic group thrills my heart.

I invite you to join us for the kick-off where Miles MacPherson of the Rock Church and I will be speaking, February 21, 2019, at the Lafayette Hotel, 11 am – 1 pm.

You can register for the kick-off lunch and learn more by visiting the Saturate San Diego site and see the miracle that happened in Orlando, Florida:

I am blessed and excited to be part of this amazing work God is doing in San Diego.  As the Psalm says:

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! ...For there the Lord commanded the blessing—life forevermore.” —Psalm 133
