Set Your Mind Above
“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”— Colossians 3:2 Our feet may walk this earth, and gravity keeps us physically anchored, but to live healthy, spiritually whole lives, our minds must be in heaven. Which means, in our practical, everyday lives, we can set our minds to approach people, our jobs, and our daily tasks with a perspective that reflects God’s perspective.
“Set your mind” is almost an order.
Study God’s Word, pray, draw close to the Lord, and allow Him to pull you back up from the daily grind to see things from above.
Put your life in perspective. See the bigger picture, the long view, and realize that the hassles and difficulties of today will be old news in a short time. Worry and anxiety do not need to consume your thoughts and dictate your state of mind.
I know that setting your mind on “things above” can be hard, something that needs to be practiced. I also know it will free you and help to heal your fears and anxieties.
Start with this reminder: the Bible says that we are raised up by God to sit in heavenly places with Jesus (Ephesians 2:6).
If we set our minds to sit every day with Jesus, immersed in His love, then what a different view of earth, of people, and of life we will enjoy.
