Allow Him to Pick You Up

He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young. —Isaiah 40:11

This passage is one of my favorite images and descriptions of Jesus our Good Shepherd and how He cares for His flock.

When a lamb breaks a leg or suffers injury, the shepherd will reach down, gently pick up the lamb and lay it across his shoulders, around his neck. He holds the front legs in one hand and the back legs with the other, one near his heart and the other near his head. Then the shepherd walks with the lamb carrying its hurting, tired little body.

You might be feeling a little broken and bruised right about now. Family issues loom over the holidays. People get sick from being tired and under pressure.

You’re trying your hardest, doing your best, but Christmas is full of high expectations and the desire to make the season bright and cheerful for everyone you love!

Let me encourage you to allow this to be a season where you take a deep breath and pace yourself. Allow Jesus to humble Himself, bend down, pick you up, and carry you across His broad shoulders. Allow yourself time to rest in Him, worship Him and find strength and peace and joy as we celebrate His first coming.

Remember, our deliverance came in the form of a baby born in Bethlehem, when the Kingdom of God invaded the earth with healings, miracles, deliverance, salvation, sacrifice, resurrection and the out pouring of the Holy Spirit!

He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. But never forget Him as the loving Shepherd who will tend to your wounds and gently carry you.
