A Prayer for Our World

Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:28). Oh Lord, we are overwhelmed.

As we pray for our world, our hearts break with love and compassion for the thousands of people suffering today in the wake of hurricanes and earthquakes.

We pray for Puerto Rico and surrounding islands as well as for Florida, Texas, and Mexico.

We pray for the people who are fearing and fleeing the floods, as they work to clear the debris and damage. We pray for those who have been unable to make contact with loved ones, like the dear sister who attended our church this week who was born in Puerto Rico. She still has not been able to make contact with family and loved ones.

We lift up the faithful workers risking their own lives to free people buried in the rubble of fallen buildings in Mexico. We pray for our sister churches and the faithful reaching out to the suffering around them.

We pray for the many people whose homes have been destroyed as they scramble to survive and protect their loved ones.

Lord, we ask for strength and courage for the many workers who have stepped forward, often at great risk, from around the world through churches and relief agencies and other ministries.

Bless with a great outpouring of the Spirit those who live in the afflicted areas trying desperately to help their neighbors and families.

Lord we pray in the name of Jesus that You will anoint these brave men and women as they help provide food, shelter, clothing, and supplies to those who have lost so much. Bless them as they love and comfort people with open hearts and arms. Help those who suffer to receive the healing love of Jesus with open hearts.

God have mercy upon on our world! You said there would be birth pangs when the Kingdom comes, and birth pangs are painful.

You also told us what to do: Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:28).

Our world is being shaken. We ask for Your mercy and help.

Help us to realize that we cannot live careless or casual spiritual lives. We need to walk in the Spirit, guided everyday by the Holy Spirit. We need to love with compassion and action as we reach out to so many in need.

May we look up to our Heavenly Father, knowing our redemption is near.

In the precious name of Jesus,
