A Gift and a Revelation
Jesus taught us,“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” Romans 8:28 promises, “All things work together for good to those who love God.”
Do we know what it means to “love God?”
Some of us, especially men, have a hard time relating to the concept of “falling in love” in spiritual terms. “Falling in love with God” might seem peculiar, even strange.
It can be, to our human understanding. Which is why discovering such a relationship with the God who created us is nothing short of a divine revelation. It’s not wimpy or weird to love God with a passionate heart, but it can be foreign to our natural way of thinking.
God desires that our faith is based on His love for us. Instead, we have turned this beautiful relationship into a religious exercise that shackles us to rules and laws that we can never keep, despite our best efforts.
Vernon McGee describes it this way: “People are being deluded. They feel that living the Christian life is like following the instruction for putting together a toy … a little mixture of psychology, a smattering of common sense, a dash of salesmanship and a few verses of the Bible as a sugarcoating, makes a successful formula for Christian living … My friend, I say to you, what we need is a relationship with Jesus Christ. We need a hot passion for Him.”1
The love between God and His children has motivated many believers to fall to their knees and exclaim, “I am my Beloved’s, and my Beloved is mine.”
We are loved and cherished by the Almighty Creator. That is an amazing gift and revelation.
We are beloved! It’s time we realize it and live like it.
